New Wildanet network to power digital connectivity for FibreHub

One of the South West’s key hotbeds of tech innovation and entrepreneurship is undergoing a major upgrade to its internet capability with the installation by Cornwall broadband provider Wildanet of a bespoke new gigabit-capable and resilient fibre broadband network.

The project for global digital engineering and software solutions specialists Headforwards provides essential reliable and future-ready comms at its FibreHub headquarters, in Pool, Redruth, as well as for the growing community of tech businesses based at FibreHub and those using its in-demand collaboration facilities.

Two fully-independent gigabit-capable circuits will be installed to meet the need for always-on connectivity for Headforwards and its tenants as well as providing the capacity for future expansion at FibreHub. The result will be a robust in-house network which efficiently manages high data traffic volumes using state-of-the-art Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) technology while being ready to scale up as the business grows.

FibreHub opened in 2021 as a specialist workspace for businesses in the digital, technology and software sectors. It is now home to 10 permanent tenants, with more space being made available in the coming months, as well as hot desking facilities, and those using the space for events and meetings.

Toby Parkins, Co-Founder of FibreHub and Headforwards said: “Reliable, fast internet is a business essential, especially in our sector. Dual-routed connectivity means we can provide our FibreHub tenants and users with highly resilient internet connectivity, which can also be faster.

“Cornwall has one of the fastest growing technology sectors outside of London, and excellent connectivity is vital to maintaining that edge. This new connection will make a big difference, and it’s also great to be able to work with Wildanet as a fellow Cornish business.”

Wildanet, founded in 2017 to bring high-speed internet to rural and hard-to-reach areas in the South West, is rapidly growing its fibre broadband network in the region, transforming connectivity for businesses and communities where it operates and this year earning the titles of the UK’s Best Rural Fibre Provider at the UK Fibre Awards 2024 and Broadband Provider of the Year at the Connected Britain Awards 2024.

Part of Wildanet’s mission is to support businesses in the region and it is already working with many companies large and small who are using the Business Solutions team’s extensive knowledge, local insight and innovative approach to transform their business communications.

Lawrence Palk, Director of B2B Sales for Wildanet, said: “Wildanet is already supporting many businesses across the South West as part of our wider roll-out of gigabit-enabled fibre into rural and hard-to reach areas.

“As a rapidly growing technology hub, access to a reliable and future-proof network for Headforwards and FibreHub will be essential to ensure rock-solid resilience to keep their global operations running smoothly and to provide the capacity to scale quickly.

“Headforwards, FibreHub and the cluster of exciting tech businesses being nurtured there are at the forefront of the development of Cornwall’s digital economy and we are delighted to be providing a solution which will meet their very specific current and future connectivity needs.”
